"ASTERION", a play by Diego Mattos. A World première! A One Character PLay.
Empty chairs, empty frame, empty phone, Asterion the immigrant is torn apart, one foot here, one foot overthere, one part of himself here, the other part overthere! Funny name! Georgette Garbès Putzel, artistic Director of Theatre MosaicMond, asked the playwright, Diego Mattos, to explain: << Asterion is one of the names given to the Minotaur, the mythological figure half man half bull, condemn to spend his days trapped in a well-designed labyrinth. However, what happens when the labyrinth turns into a waiting room, and the myth into the body of an immigrant? Asterion talks about existing in two places: pas and present, dreams and memory, joy and fear. And with the help of Jorge Luis Borges, the play also inquires deeply about solitude, frustration, utopias and the numberless contradictions that form our own labyrinths and stories.>> Diego Mattos lives in Vermont with his wife and children. Their country of origin is Bolivia. Their new Home is Vermont, USA. Muchas gracias, Diego Mattos, for sharing this so realistic but universal experience: being an immigrant, being different, being human. Once again, Theatre MosaicMond is looking for the essence of life, in its diversity and universality. Come along !
